Bicycle FAQs
Question: Are those bike racks on the front of city buses?
Answer: Yes, though since the storm they are on most but not all buses. Bicyclists need to go through a brief training and get a pass in order to use the racks on the buses. This is an important service when you have a flat or want to avoid dangerous cycling conditions. Visit the RTA's web site for information on getting the pass, as well as route maps and schedules.
Question: How can I get air for my tires?
Answer: There is an air machine next to the tennis court between Willow Residence Hall and the Reily Recreation Center. Consider investing in on-the-fly flat fixing tools: a pump that can be attached to your bike’s frame, tire irons and a patch kit.
Question: Can you recommend a longer ride?
Answer: Audubon Park and the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) offer beautiful bike/pedestrian paths free from cars. The MRT goes about 20 miles upstream on the Mississippi river levee. To find it, ride your bike through Audubon Park, cross Magazine, and ride along the right side of the Zoo's parking lot to the Fly. As you cross the railroad tracks into the Fly, look for the bike path on your right.
